Darwin Sunrise's Belinda awarded PHF for passionate support of Timor-Leste nurses and midwives

Irene Hall, District Newsletter Editor —

Read here how Belinda Jennings was recognised for her outstanding support and advocacy for this life-changing vocational training team (VTT) project.

Darwin Sunrise's Belinda Jennings has been recognised with a Paul Harris Fellow for her stellar contribution to the Vocational Training Team, aimed at improving maternal and infant mortality in Timor-Leste.

Thirteen nurses and midwives from Timor-Leste arrived in Mackay in January for five weeks of education and training at Central Queensland University and Mackay Base Hospital focussing on maternal and child health.

Outgoing DG John Hall presented the award to Belinda at the district changeover earlier this month.

"Belinda was key to researching, organising, and delivering the program and her role in selecting and directly supporting the 13 participants during their time in Mackay was key to the program's success," John said.

"Belinda also assisted in promoting the team and Rotary to the community and other Rotarians.

"The PHF also recognises her in-country support assisting the VTT graduates put their training into practice back home.

"We know that infant and maternal mortality is too high in Timor-Leste and this project, and the work and commitment of Rotarians like Belinda, changes lives."

Congratulations, Belinda, from all of us in D9560; so well deserved!
