Red Sock Project for Prostate Cancer

Brian Richardson —

Townsville Sunrise is selling Red Socks but also promoting this as a Project that clubs can initiate in their towns. Please see the attachments to find the answers to all your questions.

Red Socks is an initiative of the Townsville Sunrise Rotary Club. It is about saving lives through the early detection of Prostate Cancer.

In June 2013 long time Club member Denis Denmead PHF, passed away as a result of an aggressive Prostate Cancer illness. Dennis was born in England and was a devout supporter of the Arsenal Football Club and as a result only wore red socks, which is Arsenal’s primary colour.

The idea of Red Socks is to promote Prostate Cancer awareness and encourage men over 50 years old to visit their doctor for a full prostate check and then recognize them by presenting them with a pair of red socks.

We have recently obtained a reprint of the FAQ brochure and you will see that it now displays the new district logo.  We promote this as a District 9560 initiative to encourage other clubs to apply their ownership if they adopt a project.
