Recent changes to the Blue Card System make it easier to renew your existing card as a volunteer

David Manttan —

Renew your card online Did you know that there’s a new way to renew your card? There’s now a fully online process that is available to most people. Processing timeframes are faster for people who apply online and do not have assessable police or disciplinary information. For people who can’t access the online form, there are paper forms still available.

To apply for a blue card online

Before you can begin your online blue card application, you'll need:

· A customer reference number (CRN) and photo from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR)

Obtaining a CRN

· A CRN is the number on your Queensland driver licence, marine licence or photo identity card

· TMR has a list of other documents where your CRN can be found

· The system uses your CRN number to check your identity and get an up to date photo from TMR for your card

· If you don’t have a CRN, you can get one for free from a TMR Customer Service Centre. A list of TMR locations is available on the TMR website

Once you have your CRN

· You will need to register for a Blue Card Services' online account before you can apply for your blue or exemption card

· You only need to register once – take note of your account number

· You will use your CRN to log back into the applicant portal once you’ve registered

· To register, go to our website at www.qld.gov.au/bluecard

· Click on ''Renew a card'

· Scroll down and click on the 'Register for an online account' button and follow the prompts

Renewing your card?

Blue Card Services send a reminder text message 10 weeks before your card expires. So keep your contact details up to date so you get a reminder.

Volunteers

Volunteers need to be linked to a volunteer organisation in order to have their application fee waived.

If you are an existing volunteer card holder and renew before your blue card expires, you can apply online using the online applicant portal without needing to be linked again.

If you are applying for a volunteering blue card for the first time, speak with your Rotary Club to work out the best way for you to apply.

If you are not sure what you need to do, Blue Card Services friendly staff are ready to help. Call them on 1800 113 611.
