Discover how D9560 Rotarians celebrated 100 years of Rotary at an event in Brisbane hosted by the Premier.

Rotary in Queensland celebrated 100 years of service above self at home and around the world at an event hosted by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk at Parliament House this month.

Rotary presidents from Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns, Mackay, Bundaberg, and Gladstone joined DG John Hall and Irene at the cocktail function on the green at Parliament House.

Premier Palaszczuk congratulated Rotary on its support of everyday Queenslanders and communities and acknowledged the global work of Rotary including its polio eradication program.

"There are certain traits we like to think are typical of Queenslanders - volunteering, helping a neighbour, or helping a stranger," she said.

"These are the qualities of the Rotarians I've met tonight."

The Premier also presented each of the three District Governors with framed commemorative certificates.

Rod Green (President Rockhampton North), DG John Hall, Resources Minister Scott Stewart, Pam Gregory (President Hervey Bay Sunrise), Irene Hall, Ken Mackney (President Port of Townsville), and Karalyn Huxagen (President Mackay Northern Beaches)

In his speech, DG John said he was proud of the work of Rotary in D9560 calling out 85 clubs and 1,700 Rotarians over two million square miles of country who were helping their communities and supporting humanitarian work overseas.

"Projects like Emerald's RFDS hangar, Townsville Saints' Forever Garden and the VTT collaboration of the Mackay clubs are among the many, many outstanding projects our Rotary clubs do," he said.

"I'm proud of how Rotary is modernising and becoming more diverse, focussing on supporting causes and continuing to be a power of good and a beacon of hope in our world."
