Auckland Harbourside Rotarians Touching Lives Through Their Acts Of Kindness

Article written by ARRFC PDG Grant Spackman based on information provided by a member of the Rotary Club of Harbourside and Past Assistant Governor Shefali Mehta, QSM JP

Members of the Rotary Club of Auckland Harbourside were grateful recipients of a District Grant from District 9920 enabling them to support families critically affected by COVID-19.

Rotarians from the Club visited the Southern Cross Campus in South Auckland to deliver food parcels and supermarket vouchers to the school. There were 25 food parcels and thirty $100 food vouchers together with 250 masks hand made by the ladies at the NZ Chinese Association. The food parcels and vouchers have reached more than 30 families across the campus. They were distributed by school staff who visited the Club families and connected with them.

The Southern Cross Campus is a composite school that caters for students in Years 1-13 in the Auckland suburb of Mangere East. The school has deep ties with the Mangere East community by providing education, facilities and programmes for the wider community. It is a Maori and Pacific Islands ethnic school that amalgamated three previous schools in the area.

The provisions provided by Auckland Harbourside Rotary add to the support given by the school to some of the families most affected by COVID-19. The Club’s generosity in providing assistance in times of need is a reminder of our motto “Service Above Self”.
