2nd November, 2023 saw the charter of a new club in District 9920, the second in the same number of years with very enthusiastic and keen members, mostly all new to Rotary.

The formation of the Rotary Club of Greenlane began with a banter between two friends; the President of a newly formed club which was less than a year-old egging his other friend to form a new club.

Kingsley Wang took on the challenge as he has around him a great network of people who either were already individually doing good in the community or we looking for an opportunity to serve.

With encouragement from the District’s New Club Development Chair, Raj Chand and the District Governor Elect, Vidya Nand, who happened to be part of that group where the conversation took place, Kingsley began work on forming the new club.

With the blessing of the District Governor, guidance and assistance from the District New Club and Membership Chairs and the RI South Pacific and Philippines (RISPPO) team in Sydney, 22 new members were inducted into the club on its charter night.

The sponsor club was none other than the club of Kingsley’s friend, Akhilesh Chaudhry – the Rotary Club of Counties Manukau.

District 9920 Membership Chair, Ashwini Sadhu said, “the joy of chartering a new club is exhilarating, and especially when all its members are new to Rotary.”

New Club Development Chair, Raj Chand said, “To help new members begin their rotary journey is quite a fulfilling and rewarding experience for another Rotarian.”

On the charter evening, in the presence of the District Governor, past District Governors, Area Governors and other Club Presidents and Rotarians, the new members of the RC of Greenlane spoke passionately about why they joined Rotary and how they want to contribute to society through Rotary. Rotary’s vocational service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society.

DG Vineeta Nand congratulated all involved in the formation of the new club and welcomed the new members into the Rotary family. Members are an integral part of rotary; I would go a step further and say they are the heartbeat of Rotary. Enjoy Rotary, build friendships and let’s help to make this world a better place, she added.
