BUILDING ON OUR FOUNDATION GIVING

PDG Hugh Langridge, ARRFC —

With a strong history of supporting the Rotary Foundation, it was an easy decision for the Rotary Club of Ascot to choose to support the Foundation from its major Club Fundraiser, “Bricktober”.

Rotary Ascot has harnessed the power of the Brick to help boost their club’s giving to our Rotary Foundation. Since 2014, the club has been running the hugely popular Bricktober event - showcasing all things LEGO® to the people of Perth, with the Rotary Foundation as one of the beneficiaries of the event.

Exhibits

2021 saw over 7500 people attend the two-day event, which involved hundreds of exhibitors, a huge interactive zone with activities and competitions and vendors selling food and LEGO® products.

As well as celebrating LEGO®, the event is a great opportunity to share the work of Rotary with the public. Rotarians manning the Rotary stand shared information about the projects supported by the club, information about the Rotary Foundation, including projects supported by Foundation Grants, and also the opportunity to get your “Purple Pinkie for Polio”.

The 2021 show saw a unique opportunity to share our newest Foundation area of focus through a Photography competition that had the theme of ‘Bricks and our Environment.’ The competition was free to enter, with photographs having to feature LEGO® minifigures or bricks and a message that shares an interest in protecting the environment.

A hugely successful event, Bricktober has seen the Rotary Club of Ascot not only ensure it continues its support of the Foundation through its annual contribution but, more importantly. to raise awareness of our Rotary Foundation.
