Explaining why Rotary collaboration is a good approach for ensuring we are a member-centric organisation.

In a previous 'Rotary On The Move' article, July 2022, we explained how we were working in our Assistant Rotary Coordinator roles for Districts 9780, 9800 and 9810. We call ourselves The Dream Team.

If the lessons of the COVID world have taught us anything it is that everyone’s time is precious. When we were planning our approach to our roles, we all remarked how incredibly busy we were in our lives and that we needed to clarify the focus of our ARC jobs and work in a considered way that respected the other demands on our time.

Instead of our Coordinator roles working separately, we wanted to show that the three could work together to better engage members and inspire them and the broader community, tell the Rotary story and promote our charity, The Rotary Foundation. But it also opened up an important conversation about the importance of having balance in our lives so that our Rotary work can be balanced around our families, work, and other commitments we might have. We know many other Rotarians have the same time challenges, so we are working hard to innovate how we do our work to achieve balance for ourselves and our District leaders while giving the best of ourselves to them.

What we are trying to do is work smarter by working together with our District teams, having a united and clear focus, and reducing the number of meetings we ordinarily might have had if we worked separately. Operating in silos is never going to harness the same results compared to innovating, using our combined skillset, and challenging ourselves to explore new ways of working.

This collaborative working style is a good correlation to the People of Action Public Image campaign where Together We Inspire, Connect, End Polio, Mentor, Promote Peace, Save Lives and Learn. Together we achieve more for our members and the community.
