Raukura 7’s Teams Shine at North Island and Super 8 Tournaments
Raukura’s rugby sevens programme continues to go from strength to strength, with both our Junior (Year 9 & 10) and Senior (Under 18) teams performing exceptionally well at recent tournaments — the Te Ika a Māui North Island Secondary Schools (NISS) Sevens Tournament held in Hamilton, and the Super 8 Sevens Tournament in New Plymouth.
Our Year 9 & 10 team showed outstanding skill, teamwork, and determination throughout both competitions. At the NISS tournament, they battled their way to the final against familiar rivals, Tauranga Boys’ College (TBC), finishing as well-deserved runners-up after a tightly contested match. Just a week later, the boys faced TBC once again in the Super 8 final — this time delivering a commanding performance that saw them claim the championship title with a dominant 36–0 victory. The result was a strong statement of intent and a reflection of their growth and resilience across the season.
Meanwhile, our Under 18 Raukura 7’s team also impressed, taking out the NISS title after an intense final against King’s College, Auckland. Their momentum carried through to the Super 8 tournament, where they again met TBC in the final. In a fast-paced, high-quality encounter, Raukura emerged victorious with a 36–17 win, securing the school’s first-ever Super 8 Sevens title for the senior side.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Raukura Rugby — back-to-back Super 8 titles for our Junior team and a historic maiden title for our Senior 7’s. Both teams displayed the values of whanaungatanga, resilience, and excellence, proudly representing our kura on and off the field.
Congratulations to all players and coaching staff for their dedication, teamwork, and outstanding results. The future of Raukura Rugby 7’s is looking very bright.
