Year 10 Cohort

Awhimate Nikora —

Whetu Naera & Joseph Assen, Deans of Year 10

Kia ora e te whanau!

As we wrap up a busy Term 1, we want to acknowledge our Year 10 students who have made a strong and positive start to the year. It’s been great to see so many of our boys achieving both inside and outside the classroom. A special mention must go out to our Rugby League 9’s and Waka Ama teams who recently bought home provincial and National titles - ka rawe! Keep up the great mahi.

Attendance

Attendance has been a key priority for us this term, with our current overall attendance rate sitting at 84%, which is below our target of 90%. To address this, whānau would have received a letter on 28/03/25 outlining a new initiative aimed at improving attendance and reducing truancy. Any students with unexplained absences or truancy will be required to attend Te Honoa Toi on a Wednesday afternoon to catch up on mahi missed in class. This will take priority over any extracurricular commitments.

Academic

On the Academic front we also wanted to make a mention of Oskar Hay who has consistently been our top fortnightly report scorer over Term 1. Well done Oskar, keep up the awesome mahi!

And lastly, a special mention goes out to Blake Fraser who recently represented the NZ Ministock team in Perth, Australia. Blake consistent placings of a 3rd, 5th and 4th helping Team NZ to win the Australia vs New Zealand Invitational Trophy, (The first time in 10 years to be won on Australia soil).

Enjoy your holidays and time with whanau, we look forward to seeing you all back in Term 2.

Nga mihi,

Year 10 Deans
