Tumuaki/Principal's Message

Awhimate Nikora —

J. Kendal, Tumuaki/Principal

Tēnā koutou e te whānau whānui o Raukura

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our kaiako, coaches, managers, and whānau who have enabled our ākonga to participate in a vast number of sporting, cultural, and leadership opportunities this term.

Participation in school activities builds confidence, encourages leadership, and

fosters a sense of belonging. Whether on the field or in the stands, involvement

brings students together in a shared purpose, creating memories that last a lifetime.

I encourage all whānau to have a kōrero with your son – whāngai to see what he can become involved in outside of the classroom. With over 18 different sporting codes, and a nationally recognised performing arts programme, our environment enables all our ākonga to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. As Term 1 comes to a close, I would like to wish all our ākonga, whānau and staff an enjoyable and safe holiday break.

Mā whero, mā pango ka oti ai te mahi

This whakataukī refers to working together, and the need for collaboration.

Attendance + Attitude = Achievement

A big shout out to our Year 9 and Year 13 ākonga who are leading the way in both attendance in class, and at our Academic Review Days. As a school, our

attendance rates are reported daily to the Ministry of Education. We are

acknowledging students who have regular attendance, and those you are achieving 90% and above. Evidence suggests that by simply having good attendance rates, our achievements statistics will continue to flourish.

As a kura we are focusing on:

  • Lessons that are engaging and enjoyable.

  • Content that connects our ākonga to our local pūrakau and curriculum.

  • Teachers who have high expectations for all our ākonga.

  • Ensuring that school is the coolest place to be.

As a whānau we need your tautoko by:

  • Ensuring you son – whāngai are well rested and getting sufficient sleep.

  • That you are having kōrero about their learning and daily highlights.

  • Please have high expectations that your tamariki attend school every day, including wet and cold days.

  • Help your tamariki to develop a positive growth mindset toward the hard stuff!

Raukura Student Rugby Referees 2025

As the winter sporting season approaches we ask all our whānau to remember the APPLAUD principles when watching any of our sporting teams in action. This year we have eight students volunteering as Referees and Assistant Referees for our home games. Please give them your full support on the sidelines.
