Welcome back Year 11!

Ceylan Bekar —

C. Bekar and J. Magatogia, Deans of Year 11

Kia Ora and Fakaalofa lahi atu Year 11 whānau,

My name is James Magatogia, and I’m excited to introduce myself as the new Year 11 Co-Dean here at Rotorua Boys’ High School.

Born and raised on the peaceful island of Niue, I bring with me a deep appreciation for family, culture, and community — values that continue to guide me in both my personal and professional life. My wife is also a teacher here at Rotorua Boys High School, and we have 3 beautiful children. Our oldest son attends Raukura and our youngest two attend Te Kura o Te Koutu. I’ve worked in education for over a decade and I am proud to be a part of our Raukura whānau.

Before moving to Rotorua in 2014, I served in the Government of Niue, and I’ve also spent over nine years in the local business sector, holding senior leadership roles. This diverse background has equipped me with strong organisational skills, empathy, and a calm, considered approach when working with young people and their families.

As a Dean, my priority is ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and supported. I’m passionate about fostering a positive school culture, encouraging student wellbeing, and building strong, trusting relationships with both our ākonga and their whānau. I see this role as an opportunity to support and lead in a way that is both mana-enhancing and purposeful and I look forward to being a part of your son’s academic journey.

Please know that my door is always open. I welcome any opportunity to connect, and Ms Ceylan Bekar and I look forward to working together to help our young men thrive this year and beyond.
