RBHS Crowned Super Eight Golf Champions 2025

For the first time since 2019, Rotorua Boys’ High School has reclaimed the Super Eight Golf Championship, securing our 14th title in 26 years in an impressive display of skill, resilience, and teamwork.

The tournament, held at Tauranga Golf Club, began under challenging conditions on Day 1, with heavy rain and gusting winds making scoring difficult. Despite this, Captain Francis Lockwood led the charge with an even-par 71, supported by Kevin Bang (+2, 73) and Taylor Beazley (+4, 75) anchoring the second team. With Day 2’s second round canceled due to unplayable conditions, RBHS held a four-shot lead over defending champions New Plymouth Boys’ High heading into the final day.

A Championship-Winning Performance

Day 2 presented softer greens and more favorable conditions, allowing our golfers to capitalise, highlights included the following;

✔️ Harrison Beazley delivered a standout performance, carding a 2-under 69, tying for the best round of the day.
✔️ Kevin Bang continued his consistency with a 1-over 72, finishing tied for second in the Individual Gross for the third straight year.
✔️ Francis Lockwood followed up his opening 71 with a 2-over 73, securing the Individual Gross Title for the tournament.
✔️ Taylor Beazley put together another strong round with a 73, winning the Stableford competition.
✔️ Super Eight debutant Rangimarie Manihi carded his best tournament round for the school with a 73.

Our second team consisting of Taylor, Rangimarie, Shaam Bhullar and Isaiah Kilgour also showed their potential finishing tied Fourth from the sixteen teams. A great effort.

With strong performances across the two teams, RBHS secured the title, returning to the winners’ circle for the first time in five years. This Super Eight victory adds to our Bay of Plenty and National Secondary Schools Championship titles, solidifying our standing as one of New Zealand’s premier secondary school golf teams.

A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers Ken Allan and Ken Smith, as well as the Tauranga BC tournament facilitators, for making this tournament a success.

Congratulations to all our golfers on an outstanding achievement—proud to be RBHS!
