K. MacDonald, LOL PE, OE & Health
At Rotorua Boys’ High School, Physical Education (PE) and Health play an integral role in shaping the well-being and development of our students. As a core subject, PE and Health are not only foundational to the curriculum but also essential in fostering a holistic approach to student growth, focusing on physical, emotional, and social development.
As we move through Term 1, our focus is on establishing a good routine and high expectations. It is important that each student has their PE uniform for each lesson regardless if they are participating in a practical lesson or not. THese can be purchased at the school shop. If for any unforeseen reason, they cannot wear their correct PE uniform, students can wear alternative clothing with an accompanying note from home.
The Junior School are participating in summer code sports such as ultimate frisbee, cricket and tee ball. In Health they will be looking at decision making and how they can come to a positive decision when met with different challenges.
Our senior students are also preparing for their first assessments, making this a busy time in our classrooms:
1PED are working on their AS1.1 looking at how strategies can be used in a physical activity.
2PED are looking at how a sporting event influences self, others and society, with Crankworx being that event. The group will head to the event on Wednesday the 5th of March to gather information and evidence to support their assessment.
3PED are finishing up their issue in sport and how that influences New Zealand Society. The next assessment, the students will be analyzing their golf swing after participating in 9 holes at Springfield Golf Course.
We believe that a well-rounded education must include an emphasis on well-being, and our comprehensive PE and Health program reflects this commitment. As a core subject, PE and Health are foundational to building strong, healthy, and confident individuals who are ready to take on the world with enthusiasm and resilience.
