Te Whare o Raukura

Nga kaiako o Te Whare o Raukura

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!

This whakatauki speaks to the heart of who we are at Te Whare o Raukura. It reminds us that our greatest strength is our people – the relationships we build, the connections we nurture, and the sense of whānau that allows us all to flourish. As we begin 2025, we extend a warm welcome to all our new staff, Taimona Panapa, Penetehuki Panapa, Granger Church, Iris Hohneck, Ida Ngatai, Johni Rutene, Sarah Kendal and Paerata Tahuriorangi, who bring with them different skills, experiences, and mātauranga that will enrich our kura. We are excited to have you join our whānau and look forward to the journey ahead.

Whānau Hui – A Strong Start to 2025

Our first Whānau Hui of the year was a fantastic way to begin 2025, with an incredible turnout of whānau. It was a great opportunity to introduce our new kaiako, reconnect with our whānau and set a positive vibe for the year ahead. The strength of our community was evident, and we are excited for what’s to come.

Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga

We had three representatives from kura participate in the annual Matatini competition, which plays a vital role in fostering, developing, and preserving traditional Māori performing arts. Matua Arana Millar performed with Te Hekenga a Rangi, Matua Ariki Henry with Te Kapa Haka o Te Whānau a Apanui, and our only student performer, Taowaru Waititi, with Te Taumata o Apanui. All three of these kaihaka and many other oldboys of the kura showcased haka excellence, proudly representing their whānau, iwi, and our kura with pride.

Upcoming Events – Get Involved!

Kaumātua Olympics - A group of boys from Te Whare o Raukura will be helping out at this event, this is an opportunity to give back to the community by supporting our Ngāti Whakaue kaumātua.

Raukura Kapa Haka – Practices will start soon under the guidance of Matua Jamus and his core group, as they prepare for the regionals. Our junior all-boys team, Te Aitanga a Tāne, is also looking to bring their energy and talent to the stage, once again. If you’re keen, then look out for the pānui and come to the hui.

Super 8 Kapa Haka – Senior students will be leading this, running sessions in class and during lunchtime. A great chance for our boys to step up and show leadership while developing their skills.

Manu Kōrero – As soon as we have this year’s topics, we will be inviting all interested students to start preparing. Keep an eye out for updates!

He kai kei aku ringa

As we embark on this new year, let’s embrace this mindset, taking responsibility for our growth, development, and achievements. Whether in kapa haka, whaikōrero, or any other horopaki, we have the tools within us to thrive.
