Tēnā koutou e te whānau whānui o Raukura,
2025 has kicked off in full force for the Social Sciences faculty! We offer 17 diverse courses, including Tourism, Business, Accounting, History, Geography, and Social Studies.
Year 9 Social Studies began with our Whanaungatanga unit, which focuses on the values of Raukura and Te Arawa, as well as the personal values that motivate our ākonga. This unit provides a great opportunity for both kaiako and ākonga to learn about each other and what drives them.
Our Year 10 students have been exploring online safety and awareness through The Social Dilemma unit. This has been a real eye-opener for many, prompting them to reflect on their social media usage and understand where their online footprint data goes.
As a faculty, we prioritise skills over content. With information more accessible than ever, we focus on developing the skills needed to interpret and critically assess the content we encounter.
We have an exciting year ahead, and I look forward to keeping you updated in future newsletters.
