C. Makan, Dean of Year 13
Tena Koutou Katoa,
My name is Chevez Makan and I’m privileged to serve as the Year 13 Dean for 2025. As a proud old boy of Raukura born and raised in Rotorua, my connection to this school and community runs deep. Sports have always been a big part of my life—whether it's cheering on rugby, cricket, and basketball or taking the field for the Aces hockey club. Being an old boy, I’m passionate about ensuring our students receive the same enriching educational experience that shaped my own journey at Raukura.
Te Wero
We kicked off the school year in style with our annual Te Wero challenge—an event deeply embedded in the heart of our school's culture and history. Te Wero is a journey that every Year 13 student starts and finishes together. It’s an opportunity for our young men to step up, push their limits, and work as a collective, reinforcing the values of teamwork, leadership, and brotherhood. More than just a physical and mental challenge, Te Wero strengthens the bonds within our cohort, reminding us that at Raukura, we rise together! The brotherhood of Raukura is strong!
Attendance Matters
As we dive deeper into the academic year, the demands of NCEA Level 3 will only increase. Attendance is crucial - every day counts! The Ministry of Education sets a 90% attendance expectation, yet currently only 52% of our Year 13 students are meeting this standard. This is a key area for improvement.
Success starts with showing up. To thrive at school, attendance absolutely matters! Let’s work together to ensure our young men are present, engaged, and on track for success.
