John Kendal, Tumuaki/Principal
Tēnā koutou e te whānau whānui o Raukura
As we move into Week 5 of the term, it has been wonderful to see the array of sporting, cultural and leadership opportunities being undertaken by our tauira. With over 25 current ‘Old Boys’ presently on our teaching and support staff, it would be fair to say we all want all our tauira to have an even better experience than we all had at Raukura. This is saying a lot because we all loved the experiences, friendships and opportunities our kura gave to us.
Mā te tuakana kā tōtika te tēina. Ma te tēina kā tōtika te tuakana.
My commitment to ensuring hauora – wellness is a priority for our staff, students, and the wider school community continues to remain a central focus. I would like to acknowledge all whānau and caregivers who are supporting the kura to ensure our phones are away for the day. The level of kōrero, laughter, and the power of playing games during break times has been very evident.
Year 9 Visits
During the first half of the term all Year 9 tauira had time to visit my office and sit in the boardroom to find out about my role as the Tumuaki. Many were somewhat surprised to learn that my employers are made up of parents and caregivers who had been elected to the Board of Trustees. My key message to them was around developing really good habits.
Attendance target being 90% and above.
Making sure they are choosing a variety of sporting, cultural and leadership opportunities to become involved in.
Using their manners, and smiling and thanking their kaiako at the end of lessons.
Aiming for scores of 3 and above in their fortnightly reports.
The importance of being a kaitiaki by keeping our kura clean and tidy.
Hail Newsletter
We hope you like the new Hail format of our school newsletter. It is far more mobile phone-friendly than our current flipbook format. We intend to make these publications more frequent and less content-heavy. Nau mai haere mai.
