PE Faculty Endorsement Lunch
On Friday 11th June, the PE Faculty hosted students who had endorsed with Merit or Excellence in PE or in Health. It was a nice opportunity to celebrate their achievement while setting another wero/challenge - to endorse again this year at the same or higher level and to work towards scholarship in the future.
Mrs Northey talked to students about what is required for scholarship and we will be looking to put a programme in place when she returns from maternity leave. Well done to all students as well as to our teachers who worked with students throughout the year last year.
To endorse in PE, you must gain 14 or more credits and Merit of Excellence (for a Merit endorsement) and 14 credits at Excellence (for an Excellence endorsement). In Health, you must gain 14 credits but 4 of those credits must come from the external exam
POLICE STUDIES 3 DAY INTENSIVE CAMP
On Sunday 13th June, the RGHS and RBHS Year 13 Police Studies classes attended their 3 Day Intensive Camp at Keswick Christian Camp. We were met by Inspector Phil Taikato, the Area Commander for Rotorua Police, who welcomed us to the camp.
The day then moved into the delivery of our scenario about a robbery in a local Dairy in town. From there, we experienced different workshops with personnel from the Rotorua Police who gave us details about what their role might be within the scenario. Our first person was Senior Constable Gared McLauglin from the Serious Crash unit, who showed us around an actual crashed car, that had been brought to camp as a prop for the scenario. We then had Detective Stef Graham from the CIB who helped us with our questioning technique which would come in handy when students had to conduct their own informal and formal interviews over the next two days.
Following that, we had Constable Alana Whiteman a Scene of Crime officer, who looked at various evidence that can be examined at a crime scene. The next day we had Constable Billy Hill and colleagues from the Dog Squad who gave a demonstration on why you should NEVER run from the Police dogs. We also got to meet the most adorable Police dog puppy.
Our last activity that day was with Senior Constable Tony O’Keefe who lead Public Order training, in some atrocious weather, but our students still carried on to their credit. Both days, we had Physical Training sessions lead by Mark Enright at 6am.
On the final day (Tuesday 15th June), we left our awesome accommodation and went to the Rotorua Police Station where we rotated in groups to complete our Formal Interviews with people role playing as the suspect from our scenario first handed out on Sunday. Groups also did a tour of the Police station with Constable Lania Day and checked out the tactical arms with Senior Constable Jeremy Siddell.
Year 13 Physical Education
Throughout Term 2 our Year 13 Physical Education students took part in a gymnastics training programme at MIGS gym. They were required to learn a series of skills and be assessed on their gymnastics performance on the vault, trampoline and floor, as well as complete written assessments related to biomechanics and performance improvement. The class had a fantastic time at MIGS gym being coached by expert gymnasts and nailing skills that they never thought possible at the beginning of the programme, from handstands over the vault to somersaults on the trampoline, they gave everything a go!
Congratulations to the following students who gained an Excellence for their gymnastics performance and/or their biomechanics assessment: Shenika Whitney-Perenara, Haylee Jones, Maea Hay, Helena Doub’le, Sonya Cropp, Manaia Peeti
And those who gained a Merit: Daeyal Biddle, Ariana Cairns, Sonya Cropp, Anzio Pao-Toleafoa, Iris Paul, Teagan Ritchie, Manaia Steele, Teremataora Taringa, Pirihira Taupe, Aimee Whata
Year 9 and Physical Education
On Tuesday 29th June our Year 9 and 10 students participated in the 4th Annual Volleyball Tournament, as part of their Sport Education module. During PE classes, students selected teams then allocated roles which they were able to demonstrate either through class training sessions or at the tournament.
The Year 12 Sport Leadership class were responsible for running the tournament as part of their assessment - Examine the implementation and outcomes of a physical activity event or opportunity worth 3credits.
Everything from creating the draw, allocating referees and scorekeepers, to setting up the equipment and taking team photographs was organised by students. The day went very smoothly and participants and organisers both did an amazing job.
Congratulations to our winning teams
