From your Year 11 Dean - Olivia Holmes

Olivia Holmes —

Welcome to the end of Term 1 - finally!

What a mixed bag of a term we have had. Just when we thought our days of having an unsettled year were over, we get hit with Omicron. I know that absences have affected more than half of our Year 11’s and I am so grateful and proud of those who have persevered with their school mahi, either online or through the hard packs that were delivered. So many of you showed real initiative and have contacted your teachers about your subject work - ka rawe!

NCEA is well and truly upon us and it is imperative our students understand how big this year is for them. The goal is 80 credits across six subjects, including gaining 10 credits for Level 1 Numeracy and Literacy. If you have any questions regarding how this works, please contact me or the specific subject teacher. Don’t forget, we also have the Kamar app that will give you the academic information for your child.

Attendance moving forward into Term 2 is a big focus for us. We need to get our students back into a routine and back into their learning. Our goal for attendance is 85% as it is proven that attendance equals achievement. Please stay in touch with your child’s whanau teacher in regards to attendance, they are your first port of call.

Term 2 is looking busy already. Production information is getting out there, this year is ‘In The Heights’, hosted by RBHS. We will also have our Kapa Haka group, Raukura, busily training for Nationals in Term 3. Assessments will be due, along with sport competitions getting into full swing. Time management is going to be a massive skill our students need to improve on in order to stay on top of everything.

As always, I welcome communication with you all. Please get in touch if there is something of concern you’d like to discuss. Have a safe and happy Easter, and a great term break!
