The PE Department started off the term with a bang, with rafting and mountain biking in week 2 for our Year 13s and Year12s respectively.
The Year 13 rafting trip combined our PE, Sport Leader and Tourism classes in a trip to Okere Falls to raft the awa with local business Rotorua Rafting. The trip contributed to a Level 3 PE achievement standard and a Level 3 unit standards in tourism, as well as being a fantastic experience for our students. Following the rafting trip we ventured into the bush and set to work planting native trees and shrubs which had grown from the seeds planted on our trip last year - kaitiakitanga in action! We can’t wait to see this area flourish as more native forest is regenerated in this area.
Our Year 12’s have also been putting in the hard mahi in Whakarewarewa Forest completing their mountain biking assessments. We had some very speedy bikers out there and fantastic grades coming through for our level 2 PE performance standard for our 12 PE and 12 Sport Leader classes. Congratulations to all those involved and a huge thank you to our local businesses Rotorua Rafting and Planet Bike who have supported our students and given us all a great
