Tuakana/Teina Day

Carolyn Katu —

Year 13 & 9 Tuakana/Teina Day

On Thursday 24th February the Year 13 and Year 9 students took part in a Tuakana/Teina (Big sister/Little sister) day that involved working together to create a house chant as well as participating in tabloid events.

Our tabloid events consisted of a water carry, stilt walking, coconut shy, pick up sticks, trolley race and ski walk. Each team rotated around each event and played different teams with TE AO recipients being selected by the Year 13 leaders for each event. The emphasis was on having fun, participating and working together, which all students did. Results were very close at the end of tabloids were: 1st place Rangiuru, 2nd place Rukuwai, 3rd Place Hinemoa and 4th place Karenga.

The last part of the day was to present the house chants back to the other houses and our judges - Whaea Laurelle, Mrs Holt, Mrs Tepania and Miss Riley who selected the winning houses. All houses did an outstanding job, creating and choreographing a house chant in two periods but the winners were as follows: 1st place Karenga, 2nd Place Hinemoa, 3rd place Rangiuru and 4th place Rukuwai.

When all points were counted together, the overall winners of the Tuakana/Teina day were:
