Bay of Plenty MathsMind

On Friday, 19 August, along with 18 other schools and over 30 teams, two keen junior teams for Rotorua Girls' High School,  ventured to Trident High School in Whakatane for the first MathMind competition in a couple of years.

Both teams have been training during lunchtime and at home, honing their problem-solving skills. The competition was fierce and we had a few tumbles along the way with runners rushing up to get new questions.

While we didn't quite nab the top three prizes, both teams did well and scored multiple points for correct answers to challenging problems.

There were plenty of laughs and overall the students had a great experience.

Kiwi Maths Competition

Nearly 60 junior students sat the online Kiwi Mathematics Competition at the end of term two, which was based on Level 4 and 5 of the New Zealand Curriculum. This was a great opportunity for these year 9 and 10 students to test their mathematical knowledge, logic and analytical skills in a somewhat different setting.

Their results ranked well among all participants from around the country, with a few students gaining Merit results, which is well above average. It is always a pleasure for us to see our students improve their skills and excel. Certificates will be handed out during the next school assembly.

The Mathematics Department congratulates all the participants for their valiant effort.
