Trip to Te Puia
In Rotorua we are hugely fortunate to have access to world class cultural and heritage destinations on our doorstep. Recently we were fortunate to be guests of Te Puia with an opportunity to use the area to photograph Art and Fashion work from the year.
Matariki Rolleston has recently completed a dress for her L1 Technology assessment. With the assistance of Lahaina Kiel (as model) she has been able to photograph her work for her L1 Visual Arts assessment.
Priya Konduru, Mehak Walia and Rangiuru Mohi also took part in the photography day to model their Level 1 Technology Projects. Thank you to Kimalyn Smith (L2 Fashion, Painting, Design and Photography student) for taking a range of photos for them.
Sara Cooper’s completed Level 3 Technology outfit. A skirt using two different fabrics and a knitted wool singlet. Thank you to model Zara Thomas. At Level 3 students have to consider lifecycle and the environment. Sara’s outfit was made out of unwanted second hand clothing that she deconstructed and used the fabric to lay out her patterns.
Leane van Rensburg has made a skirt and knitted wool top for her Level 3 Technology project. This outfit started off life as a second hand sheet and blanket that she bought from Save Mart. Thank you to Wikitoria Thomson for being model for a day.
Heriata Rukupo has created a Korean Inspired red cropped shirt and shorts for her Level 2 Technology project. She had adorned the back with cartoon style hand stitched flowers.
Food Technology
Year 13 Students had a trip to Raglan to experience coffee and cafe culture, as they have been learning how to make Barista coffee this year. We saw how the coffee beans were roasted, and some tried the Raglan roast blend of coffee. This class has some very fine coffee Baristas developing from this year's efforts, well done everyone!
Year 10 food technology planned and produced items for a Bake Sale.
These items had to be trialled and tested to ensure they met the requirements.
A great array of products were on offer.
Food costing was also explored, and how to price effectively.
Photography and Design
The stresses of COVID-19 have pushed our Level 2 and 3 Seniors to generate lots of work in a much shorter time period than normal, and their efforts have paid off in dividends! I am so proud of all our ladies for going that extra mile.
Our Year 10’s have finished their Design unit with learning about Flat style. They created characters, washes, and learned how to incorporate text. Great job ladies!
And now we’re onto photography!...
UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO - NATURAL FIBRE DEVELOPMENT AND EGINEERING
Our Year 10 Digital Technology and Science classes were invited to attend the University of Waikato for a range of workshops that studied the effects of natural fibres used in engineering. The University hosted activities that linked Technology and Science and exposed our students to potential pathways in Natural Fibre Development and Engineering. Students experienced practical hands on tasks in and around natural fibre development, and how these developments are utilised in engineering and structural design. We would like to thank Partnership through Collaboration and Indigenous Sparks for allowing us to be apart of this opportunity.
