Duke of Edinburgh International Awards 2021:

Trish Pike —

SILVER AWARDS GROUP:

Well done and congratulations to our Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award girls, for completing their first tramping trip for the year. This was a qualifying round in preparation for the second trip which is most likely in the holidays at the end of term 3.

Three days and two nights, roughing it with tents, really tested our girls' comfort zone. However seeing them come through it with smiles on their faces shows the level of determination, commitment and resilience in this group of girls.

BRONZE AWARDS GROUP:

This year we would like to welcome into the program 20 new scholarship recipients, consisting of accelerate year 10 group to a small handful of seniors

I would like to also congratulate our Bronze group on completing their first qualifying trip recently. Tramping through Mangaotaki ranges, staying in tents and roughing it for a night. For some, tramping for the first time was too much to bear at first, however with strong support from each other they all pulled through with great enjoyment. An amazing adventure for all, with great thanks to our expert facilitators from Escape Adventure Journeys.

Lastly we would like to welcome into the program Miss Jordyn Ewert from our PE Faculty taking on the task of being our TIC of our junior scholarship group.

“The DOE is an awesome opportunity for our students to learn a new skill, get physically active, give service to their communities, and take part in an adventure. The Award challenges young people to leave their comfort zones (that's when the good stuff happens). They build self-confidence and greater resilience, helping to set them up for success in today's uncertain world, where they face more challenges than ever”.
