SOCCER IS BACK AT RGHS

After six years of break from soccer, Rautawhiri students have come back strong to form a first XI soccer team. Not only this, they’ve also made a mark on the ladder board by winning their first game at home 5-3 last week.

The coaches Ms Naidu and Ms Hy would like to thank the whanau for their support and words of encouragement.

Special mention to Mrs Carol Holt (sports coordinator) for the work she does behind the scenes.

HOCKEY TEAM

The girl’s hockey team has settled into the season well, with a few bumps in their game execution, but pulled it together on Weds the 1st of June and played a strong game against Whakatane. They fought hard and managed a draw of 1:1. Both teams played their best, defending hard and trying to score quickly meant it was an exciting game to watch, and it could have been anyone’s win! Whakatane had previously been beating other teams by quite a margin, so the girls were very happy with their game.

RUGBY

The rugby season is well underway with the U16 and U18 teams participating in a 10 aside opening tournament in Paengaroa on Monday 17th March

Both teams performed well and are now into weekly 10 aside games as part of our steps to build towards the 15 aside competition later in the year. Well done to all students who have taken up rugby - new and old. Please remember that in team sport, if you make a commitment, it is for the season and that means turning up to training.

A Thank you from our School

We are so fortunate to have several outside coaches who volunteer to coach our school teams and I would like to thank you all on behalf of the school. Our girls could not succeed without your constant support of Sport at RGHS. To our staff members who give up more of your time thank you very much too and to those teachers who also support your students by watching them play the sport they love and you get to see them out of the classroom, I know it’s all worth it because they love seeing you there too.

To all the parents and whanau who help by driving vans, washing uniforms and ensuring your daughters are there and on time THANK YOU TOO
