Student Scope - Issue Six
As many would have experienced, last week a power cut struck parts of the Waikato, including our kura. It was like something from a movie; the lights went out, our phones shut down and everyone was a little more on edge than usual. Fortunately, our amazing teachers and Senior Leadership Team leapt into action, helping us through an afternoon with no electricity.
Our trusty staff made sure that everyone was accounted for and discouraged students from leaving their classrooms to ensure everyone’s safety. Being a school that frequently uses technology for learning, it’s not very practical when the internet crashes, so we all got a taste of what it would have been like to go to school in the twentieth century. Let’s just say, kids back then must have played a lot of hangman (just kidding)!
It was a surreal scenario, but not one that we weren’t prepared for. All of our students and staff got home safely and for many, the power came back on later than afternoon. Thank you to everyone who helped us stay safe and to the students who took initiative and followed school protocol. Let’s hope the lights stay on from here on out!
Thanks for reading and see you back here next fortnight.
