North City Road Upgrade and Road Closure
You will have seen that Hamilton City Council’s work to build the new community facilities at Rototuna Village is progressing well and the new Te Kete Aronui: Rototuna Library and outdoor spaces are starting to take shape.
The next stage of the work is to build a new roundabout and upgrade North City Road to make it more pedestrian and cycling-friendly near the new community facilities.
To do this, Council need to close part of North City Road between Fergy Place and Bourn Brook Avenue from early October 2022. This includes the intersection of Bourn Brook Avenue and North City Road. We expect this work to take up to six months. Please see the map attached.
We expect to reopen the Bourn Brook Avenue intersection in late-2022 (at the end of Term 4) and the rest of the road in April 2023 (at the end of Term 1).
Access to Rototuna High Schools will be via Kimbrae Drive from Borman Road. We know this will impact how some of our school community get to and from school. But we’re also excited to see this work completed and ready for us all to enjoy.
To help you plan your student’s journey to and from school, here’s a few options:
Walk, scoot or bike
In Term 4 the weather is great, and we want to build on our already great numbers who walk, scoot and bike to school.
Choose a new pick-up spot
Plan an alternative pick-up location if you are needing to collect students by car. Ask your student to meet you there.
Jump on the bus
Buses will continue to operate during the closure. Students will still be able to catch the bus from the usual stops on Kimbrae Drive.
Start a carpool
If you have other students who live in your area, consider organising a carpool with their parents/caregivers.
Delay your pick-up
If you do need to collect students from school, we ask our parents/caregivers to arrive 10-15 minutes after school finishes. This will give students time to get out and be waiting to help with flow in our carparks.
If you have any questions about the work, you can contact Jonathon Brooke at Hamilton City Council on Jonathon.Brooke@hcc.govt.nz.
