Haumi Market Day

RSHS —

Year 11 Haumi Wānanga at RSHS ran a successful market day on Monday.

The Year 11 students chose their business teams and worked together as a business: preparing a business plan with a mission statement, market research and a budget including a cost breakdown, breakeven analysis and forecast income statement.

The students also marketed their product and produced their own products for Market Day. There were a total of 20 businesses selling a range of products from Māori fry bread to screen printed t-shirts.

Whilst each business aimed to make a profit, the process itself formed the learning experience and assessment criteria. Many teams were ambitious in their selling price and forecast profit and soon came to the realisation that their prices may be too high for their target market! Happily, the majority of businesses were successful in making a profit. The students will now reflect on the process, analysing what worked well, what the weaknesses were, and any improvements they could make throughout the process.
