For students under 16, it is illegal to work during school hours under Section 54 of the Education and Training Act 2020.

In these cases if employers are putting pressure on your young person to work during school hours, you may wish to advise them that it is illegal.

For older students it is essential that they are able to remain engaged in their learning so that their future opportunities for work or learning are not impacted. In other words - they should not be working in paid employment during school hours as this is likely to impact their ability to engage in learning successfully.

Please ensure your young person is focusing on learning rather than being in paid employment during scheduled learning hours. The remote learning schedule was sent out in the last newsletter and is referenced in the introduction. Please note that to keep up to date, students should be continuing to progress, refine and polish their work until 3pm each day.
