Inclusive Learning at Rototuna Junior High School
At Rototuna Junior High School (RJHS), we believe every student deserves the opportunity to experience success and belonging at school.
Our Inclusive Learning Team is dedicated to empowering students to not only achieve academic success but also develop the confidence and skills to navigate their futures with excitement and resilience.
Who we are and what we do:
Our team, which includes three Learning Support Coordinators—Gail, Charlotte, and Raewyn—along with our ORS teacher, Dallas and 18 Inclusive Learning Assistants (ILAs), are supported by Brooke, our Inclusive Learning Leader.
The English Language Learning team, led by Cath Glyde, consists of our International Student Director, Veronica and ELL Teacher, Janani.
We collaborate closely with external agencies, the JHS Executive team and our Kāhui Rangatahi to provide comprehensive support for our students.
Supports we offer:
Monitoring and Support: Ongoing assistance for students and whānau from our Learning Support Coordinators.
Specialist Teacher Support: For students with ORS funding.
Assessment support: Providing students with access to Special Assessment Conditions for the NCEA Co-Requisite assessments (Literacy and Numeracy).
Individualised Learning Programs: Including our SPEC program, designed to meet specific learning needs.
Additional tools for learning: Providing students with Assistive Technologies alongside the Ministry of Education, as well as other resources and technologies such as Google Read/Write, Steps Web and Reading Eggs.
Support for English Language Learners: We offer tailored programs and resources to help English Language Learners develop their language skills and confidently participate in all aspects of school life.
Intervention Programs: Focused on literacy, numeracy and executive functioning skills.
Generalised Classroom Support: Additional assistance from our ILAs within some Advisory, Modules and Flight Times.
Individual Learning and Behavior Plans: Custom strategies to help students succeed.
Enhanced Transition Programs: Additional enrolment processes to support new students.
Collaboration with Whānau and outside agencies: Engaging families to strengthen support networks.
