Nury Choi and Jazlyn Gillies

Youth Leadership

Two climate-conscious rangatahi (students) from our school, Nury Choi and Jazlyn Gillies, attended an innovative Enviroleaders day to equip them with the skills needed to tackle the tough conversations around the impacts of climate change.

The youth leadership development day took place at the Wintec campus in Hamilton on Wednesday, 10 May, and brought together students with a passion for the environment from four high schools across our region.

The day was organised by the Waikato Regional Council, in collaboration with Environmental Education Facilitator Anna Cunningham, to develop and host the special training session.

Both Jazlyn and Nury had this opportunity because they are taking part in the Waikato Regional Council’s internship programme for Puna Wānanga.

Nury shared “I learnt skills that I not only plan to apply in my own leadership journey, but also want to share with others.”
