Kia ora Rototuna e te Whānau,

As we edge nearer to the end of the term I wanted to draw your attention to a couple of things. Firstly, as promised, we filmed our prizegiving so that we were able to celebrate the successes of our young people together. This has proven to be a celebration of so much more than prizes, as it has given us the opportunity to showcase and share some of the wonderful gifts and talents our young people have. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to have a look by following the link included in this newsletter.

I heard that some of our students did not tell their families the prizes they were being awarded before the virtual showcase was available. Instead, dressed in uniform, these students sat next to their loved ones in their living rooms and watched the showcase together. When the student’s name was announced the surprise was revealed and the family celebration ensued! Thank you to all our staff and students who put in the extra hours to make this a special moment for all.

Secondly, as you will all be aware, many of our young people are well underway with their exams. Many of our students already have Unexpected Event Grades (UEGs) as they prepare for these exams. What I find surprising is just how many are turning up to give their exams a go, even if they have already passed with their UEG. I think this speaks highly to the dispositions of our students. Their determination and eagerness to push themselves to do better and to go through the actual experience of sitting an external exam (even those who have excellence UEGs). Well done to all our students who are giving their best and having a go, it is really impressive.
