Student Scope - Issue Two
Puna Wānanga is what we call a Senior High student’s midweek class where we take a break from the normal routine and explore something new. We don’t earn credits from Puna, but here’s why it's cool.
Puna offers opportunities such as impact projects, pursuing passions, gaining experience, developing skills, building character, learning from guest speakers and establishing connections with community partners. All are done with the design thinking process in mind. To do well, students need a growth mindset and a vision to aspire to.
This column is my Puna Project, here are some ideas from others that might help to inspire you.
- The Puna Wānanga Perform are currently making costumes for the production 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame', which is being put on by an external theatre company.
- A group of students in Create are making candles to sell at the upcoming market day.
Your imagination is the limit in Puna! I look forward to hearing about everyone’s fun project ideas. Thank you for reading, keep an eye out for issue three!
