Rototuna High Schools

KORERO FROM MIRANDA

Kia ora Rototuna e te Whānau,

This is our last eNewsletter for a big Week 10 and an even bigger Term 3. We are incredibly fortunate to be finishing this term having spent the majority of our time at school. One of my personal highlights this term has been the chance to meet some of our amazing students at the Manukura|Student Leader interviews. I had the pleasure of meeting 35 outstanding applicants who were able to talk about their leadership aspirations for our school. Interestingly, a couple of themes were repeated across all these interviews. One was that our students value the learning relationships they have with their teachers. They appreciate how their teachers work with them to engage their personal interests and link learning to their strengths. Secondly, they really valued the different opportunities they can access through our three curriculum strands: Whānau (Advisory), Wānanga Ako (Specialist Learning), and Puna Wānanga (Impact Projects). Students emphasised feeling empowered to grow connections with each other, across their learning and within our community; enabling the exploration of future pathways. Thank you to all the young people who made the effort to apply for these positions.

You will appreciate as a school we continue to have to cope and make adjustments to our end of year programmes and events in response to COVID-19. In this newsletter there is some important information covering your student’s learning programmes for the first two Wednesdays of Term 4. Your young person’s Kaiārahi will be organising a timetable that responds to their learning needs so they can attend any preliminary exams, workshops at school, or have study leave/self directed learning from home. There is also some exciting information about course opportunities for Year 13 students in 2022. There are two videos, linked to this newsletter, to support this information.

Thank you all for the continued support and encouragement you give to your students and to our school.

Finally,

Have a great Term 3 break with your family.

Stay well.

Stay safe. Wear a mask if going out!

Stay connected,

Ngā mihi,

Miranda
