KORERO FROM MEL
As we come to the end of another busy Term 3, I am enjoying being able to reflect on and celebrate more student successes.
It has been an absolute privilege to see so many of our students pitch for and be awarded their Gold CLOAK Badges and to be able to celebrate them and our Silver Badge recipients, with their whānau, at a breakfast yesterday morning. Our CLOAK values are the things that we have identified as a school community that are important in becoming successful and well rounded students and citizens in our community. To have a record number of students strive to soar in these values is heartwarming.
Congratulations go out to Zander Beumer (Year 8 Paepae Roa) for being awarded the highest score, and fastest time, in the Canterbury University run Kiwi Mathematics Competition. Our students across Years 7 - 10 competed against students from 450 other schools across Aotearoa. Students who achieved an Excellence award in this competition will be acknowledged, with Zander, at the end of term assembly this Friday afternoon.
Last week we celebrated Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. Our Cultural Wairua organised a daily quiz and an inter-Iwi Kī o Rahi tournament. Our Kapa Haka rōpū performed in the community and in school, and the Senior High School organised and hosted the Kaumātua Olympics which involved over 400 kaumātua from across the motu - always a highlight in our calendar.
This is also the time of year when whānau are making decisions about schooling for the following year. I recently emailed parents of all Year 8 students highlighting what the Junior and Senior High have to offer your children. If you have made a decision to take your child to another school (students currently in Years 7-9), we would appreciate you filling in this form:
This is critical to us making informed decisions about staffing and numbers of classes in 2024.
If your child is in Year 10, you will have started to receive information from the Senior High School about their course selections for 2024 in Year 11. Please take note of the opportunities to engage with support from RSHS, including appointments at their Puna Wānanga Showcase tonight.
