Our last eNews for the term and semester. A big congratulations to all our amazing learners and to all whānau who have supported our young people and us over the last two terms. We appreciate the effort of our students and your support.
Over the course of the year, I have been actively encouraging staff to stay in contact with whānau to ensure you all hear from us and feel kept in the loop. If you have been with us prior to this year I hope you have noticed an improvement in this area, I know staff have been trying super hard to keep in contact. On occasions staff do encounter a less than positive response from caregivers which is disappointing. It is our goal to work in partnership with you to have shared high expectations for our young people as both learners and people. I understand that at times staff are delivering less than favourable messages about student learning and/or behaviour and this can be difficult to hear. We get this and do our best to deliver messages in an honest and sensitive way. We don’t always get this right but we are trying. Please support us by reinforcing high expectations of learning and behaviour. Staff really appreciate any positive acknowledgement for their effort to keep in contact and this motivates them to keep being proactive. When this positive contact and communication happens both ways, 99% of the time we see improvement. Let’s keep working together to send the same messages to our young people.
I hope you all have the opportunity to have a break at the end of next week. I look forward to seeing many of you during our IEMs and am looking forward to the new semester also. Stay safe.
