KORERO FROM MEG
Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa, warm greetings to you all,
I would like to begin with a warm welcome back to staff and students after the two week break. It was a well deserved break for all and I hope that many of you were able to recharge your batteries, ready for some amazing experiences in our Wananga Ako (schools of learning), projects and advisory.
After some initial angst from students about this new style of learning and the worry of where they needed to be and when, students have adapted and are embracing learning with engagement levels like we have not seen before. On my walks around the school I have felt excited about how animated and thoroughly engaged in learning the students have been displaying. Clearly for most, being able to have some choice in how they learn and being helped to make connections across their own learning has been a real success. I am continually amazed at how genuinely talented our teaching staff are in planning interesting and relevant lessons for students and I can see the impact this is having on our student body being happy about what and how they are learning at the senior high.
Change is difficult and 2020 has been a year of change for us and indeed the world. It is during these difficult times when we must come together to support each other and focus on the positive things that are in our control.
I take this opportunity to thank students, whānau and staff for continuing to support each other and embracing the change that we believe will be of great benefit to all.
Ngā Mihi,
Megan Barry
