KORERO FROM FRASER

What an amazing year we are having so far in 2021. We are super impressed here at school with the level of engagement and all round enthusiasm for learning and getting involved in other activities. This year we are aiming to lift our game in the area of communicating and acknowledging the success of our learners in all areas of school life, academic, sporting, cultural, community engagement and the arts. Our first step has been to establish more of a balance of Facebook posts across these different achievement and celebration areas. Hopefully you are enjoying seeing the images of our SOAR award recipients every fortnight. These students are ones who have been acknowledged by their teachers as amazing learners or school ambassadors and deserve their recognition. While we have 12 students who get these awards each fortnight at Iwi assemblies, many more are being recognised and we are trying to figure out a way we can let share every instance with you so you know when this is your child/ren.

One of the other aspects of celebration we want be more deliberate about is our approach to learning. Being the new and ‘different’ school we often hear all sorts of interesting things about how we do things here at RJHS. It is great that we are being talked about and it is our goal to provide some regular examples of what actually happens in our learning spaces. We can promise lots of authentic and amazing examples of teaching and learning. We also plan on opening our doors again to existing and prospective parents so you can see for yourselves. Between now and early next term we will have a schedule for this.

We are in the final stages of analysing of 2020 end of year achievement data for all learning areas so in the next couple of eNews bulletins I will share some of our key findings and trends and importantly what our next steps are. Again this is an opportunity to celebrate learner progress and acknowledge the hard work of you at home in supporting learners and the dedicated work of staff.
