Rototuna High Schools

Korero From Miranda

Kia ora Rototuna e te Whānau,

I hope that you and your families are keeping safe in your bubbles.

As you will know we are now at Level 4 lockdown for the next three days.

This means all schools are closed for instruction so we will be learning from home for the remainder of the week (maybe longer).

In the meantime, I wanted to send out a message to you and your student regarding their learning. To begin with, for the rest of the week, your student can keep engaging in their lessons and progressing their work through Schoology. If your young person is unsure what to do, please encourage them to reach out and email their subject teacher for support. Additionally, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your young person’s Kaiārahi (advisor) to make a plan if learning from home is a challenge in any way.

To check to see how your student is coping and to find out if there is anything they need, your student’s Kaiārahi (advisor) will be inviting them to join an online google meet on Friday at 10.30am. This is an opportunity to reconnect with the rest of their Whānau group and see some familiar, friendly faces. The invitation will come through your student’s school email, please encourage them to join.

We will know if we have to move into a longer lockdown as official announcements are made from the Ministry of Health. To prepare for this possibility, it is important that we re- establish clear routines. We will send out updated documentation that will highlight what longer term lockdown learning looks like at RSHS by the end of the week.

As a school we are continuing to focus on three areas: wellbeing, connectedness and doing NCEA from home. We recognise that as a senior school our young people want to continue to work toward their academic goals. To this end, we are focused on connecting with families and our students so they can continue engaging in learning and working towards completing any NCEA assessments.

Note: If your student needs a device to continue their work from home, device collection is unable to take place at this stage. We will update you when and if it will be possible.

In summary:

  • Learning continues through Schoology
  • Students can email teachers if they need support
  • Students meet with Kaiārahi (advisor) at 10.30am on Friday (check student email for invite)

Our remote learning plan update will be sent out Friday

And remember…

Be kind.

Stay safe.

Stay home.

Wear a mask if going out!

We got this team!!

Ngā mihi,

Miranda
