The work on our new buildings is progressing as per the schedule and we are excited to see the progress.

In the last month the scheduling of some of the internal refit of the existing buildings has progressed and will start in the next month or so. While there is a range of work planned for the existing buildings across RHS, the first goal is to start work on removing the large stairwells and repurposing these areas as teaching spaces. This will give us an additional 180m2 of teaching space by the start of the year and then another 180m2 by the start of term. A huge part of removing the stairwells is the addition of an external walkway on the first floor allowing entry directly into three upstairs learning spaces. This work will be finished by the middle of next year.

In the Hawkins circular you would have heard about the work being undertaken on the whare, which is not a traditional marae but more of a culturally inspired learning space. While we will use this space as a place to host pōwhiri and mihi whakatau and other cultural events, it is first and foremost a learning space for around 90 learners that will be timetabled as other spaces are.
