KORERO FROM MIRANDA

Kia ora, Noa'ia, Tālofa lava, Mauri, Kia orāna, Mālō e lelei, Talofa, Ni sa bula vinaka, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Mālo ni, Halo olgeta, Halo oloketa and warm Pacific greetings to all our Rototuna whānau

Welcome to Week 6 Term 2.

Since our last newsletter we have celebrated Samoan Language week and it was great to have met some of our families at our Pasifika Fono on Tuesday. We really appreciated the outside experts that supported this event including Sianiti Bulisala (University of Waikato), and Soteria Ieremia (Kudos CEO, Founder Pacific-i, Rocket Lab Space Educator). Thank you to those who attended and to our teachers and students who worked hard to make it happen.

On Friday, our teacher only day, we hosted over 800 teachers from our local Te Pae Here schools. An important part of the day was hearing Dr Michael Johnston speak, who is a key advisor to the Government leading the workstream on education. Dr Johnston is a cognitive psychologist who has published work on literacy acquisition and educational assessment. He explained some of the changes and priorities of this government including the structured approach to learning literacy.

Back in school, this time of year heralds a focus on polishing and finishing assessments in preparation for handing in. This must happen before the changeover from Semester 1 to Semester 2 at the end of next week.

Before moving into new modules, we have planned workshops on Monday and Tuesday to support our students to finish strong. Whānau Conferences are scheduled after this. This means that normal classes are not operating so please read on to see the details. If you have any questions please email your student’s kaiarahi.

Ngā mihi, Manuia Le Vaiaso, Malo ‘aupito
