KORERO FROM MIRANDA

Kia ora Rototuna e te Whānau,

A warm welcome back to everyone for Term 3.

It has been great to see our students settling back into their learning so quickly. This week the senior leadership team took the opportunity to talk with students about the power of fully engaging with the school’s three curriculum strands. With less than 9 weeks before we move into exams it will be so important to make the most of the teachers across these strands.

Remind your student to check in with their Kaiārahi (advisor) to make sure they are tracking well - accessing and achieving what they need for their next steps. Encourage your student to continue to work closely with their Wānanga Ako teachers to go deeper with their learning to gain those quality credits they are capable of. Finally, rally your student to engage with their Puna Wānanga teachers to grow the future focused skills and dispositions employers and tertiary providers are looking for. By managing a project through to completion your young person is able to take their learning beyond the classroom, a huge advantage to showcase their capabilities in addition to NCEA credits.

We have now been officially welcomed by the University of Waikato to our Satellite Campus. On Wednesday, 28th July, delegates from our school supported by Ngati Wairere attended a mihi whakatau ceremony. University of Waikato Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alister Jones, said that the partnership will provide additional space and enable greater connectivity between the University and the school. Our Year 13 students have already been benefiting from this relationship, meeting and learning with academic staff alongside their specialist teachers. To find out more about this unique opportunity here is a link to an article written by the University of Waikato recognising this occasion.

As always our team and I are looking forward to working with you for the benefit of our young people throughout this term

Ngā mihi,

Miranda
