KORERO FROM MIRANDA
Kia ora Rototuna e te Whānau,
Moving into Term 3 I feel really fortunate we have been able to stay open for instruction, despite the constant pressure of COVID, seasonal colds and the flu. It seems from all accounts that as a country we have passed the peak of infection rates. A big thank you to all of you and your students who supported our efforts to slow infection spread by wearing masks.
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting and working with our student councils. Each council is working to create opportunities for our students to connect to and grow their sense of belonging to our school. Our councils are already making an impact.
Our Sports Council is working to bring codes together to celebrate sporting talent at our first schools’ sports prize giving.
The Academic Council has established a study space, resources, and a maths buddy system.
The Community Council is setting up a community calendar while the Media Council is recognising and sharing key moments through Instagram, and our Arts Council has created artworks for Matariki.
Finally, our Cultural Council is looking forward to planning and celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori across our school in Week 8.
All the councils alongside our Manukura (head students) are working to create a programme in the last week of the term to celebrate “where we have come from, and who we are here” through Spirit Week.
Progress reports are being sent out at the end of this week. As always, if you have questions or need anything please be in touch with your student’s kaiārahi (advisor). There are a number of other updates for you in this newsletter including details of practice exams (and workshops), an NCEA teacher only day, and asking for your support with uniform.
Finally, we are excited that our boys have made the rugby 1st XV final this year. This is their first time getting into the final.
They will be playing against Te Awamutu College at 11am at school on Saturday if you want to support them. The food truck will also be available for drinks, hot rolls, pies and cake.
All the best boys - GO TEAM! #tunastrong
Have a great week,
Ngā mihi,
Miranda
