YES: Entrepreneurs in Action

Kia ora, my name is Joel Taylor. I am a Year 12 student at Rototuna Senior High School. This year I have been fortunate to compete in the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) competition, through my business studies.

This is one of the many opportunities here at RSHS for students to apply for. YES is such an amazing chance for business students to grow and develop their business knowledge.

Last weekend, I was selected for the 'Entrepreneurs in Action' business competition in Wellington. I competed as one of only two students chosen representing the Waikato region. We were put into teams to develop and pitch our ideas against other students from around New Zealand. This was an incredible experience that challenged and tested my business skills, whilst helping me to network with like-minded entrepreneurs. I was so inspired! I am now more confident about putting myself forward for other opportunities to take my learning beyond the classroom.

I would encourage any student who is passionate about a subject to push themselves beyond their comfort zone and take up these kinds of opportunities.
