Creating visual pepeha using textile techniques

The students have been tasked to craft an artistic visual pepeha using textiles techniques, translating spoken introductions into tactile art.

Instead of stating "My maunga is...", they are depicting it with colours, textures, and techniques like tie dying, felting or embroidery. Ocean links might manifest as dyed blue backgrounds (as seen with the Anah Atienza development below) with embroidered wave patterns. Each element's placement and technique must be planned, considering the pros and cons of each method.

The goal is a personal, meaningful piece that visually shares their whakapapa, fostering creative expression and tactile learning whilst celebrating the diverse and rich communities of RSHS.

The final banners will be displayed in Te Awanui at the Art and Technology exhibition in Term 4
