Puna Wānanga (Impact Projects) - Providing Opportunities

Timi Barabas (graduated from RSHS in 2020) is currently in the middle of an overseas trip as part of her many roles involving climate sustainability and supporting people in war torn countries.

She recently spent time in her birth country of Hungary assisting with refugees from the Ukraine. She is right now in New York attending the Climate Action summit.

Recently Timi made contact with us to let us know how she is going. This is what she writes about her experiences in Puna Wānanga (Impact Projects) and how they prepared her for her current role.

Thanks to Rototuna High School and the chance to lead my own Impact Projects for two years in a row, I learned important life skills such as securing sponsors/funders and hiring/managing people to mention a few, which have enabled me to work completely for myself at age 19 and to hire and manage 25+ staff members from all across the world and to coordinate the securing of and manage 500K+ before age 20. All these achievements during my high school years have also resulted in me being offered several other jobs from global institutions. Rototuna High School's impact projects initiative was truly life changing for me and until this day I am grateful for the freedom, skills, opportunities and life lessons they have provided me with. I don't know where I would be today if I didn't have the privilege to study at Rototuna High School. Today at age 20 I am doing what I almost dreamed of doing, travelling the world, meeting world leaders and global changemakers and managing major projects. It's often unbelievable considering only 4 years ago I spoke no English at all and had such low self esteem. The Impact Projects have truly changed me and my life forever. I recommend everyone who gets the chance to participate in this programme makes the most of it!
