Joel Taylor - Japan

Alumni News

Joel Taylor, an alumni of Rototuna Senior High School, was among the eight Kiwis chosen for the 2024 BizVenture Japan program in Tokyo.

The experience enhanced his appreciation for Japanese culture and his passion for international business and marketing.

During his week in Tokyo, he explored the similarities and differences between New Zealand and Japanese business practices by visiting various organisations. These included Cookie Time, the Panasonic Centre, an Edo Kiriko business, Musashino Recycling Centre, Mainfreight, a supermarket trade show and the New Zealand Embassy, where he visited NZTE, MFAT, and ENZ.

Cultural immersion was a significant aspect of his trip. Engaging in activities like making sushi, playing taiko drums and participating in a tea ceremony allowed him to learn about Japanese culture. Interacting with Japanese and Kiwi students during a business competition focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals was a highlight. It showed him the value of combining diverse perspectives and the importance of cross-cultural collaboration in addressing global issues.

Joel expressed his gratitude for Puna Wānanga and his business studies here at Rototuna Senior High, which he believes equipped him with the necessary skills to excel in this program.

Congratulations, Joel!
