Student Celebration
Each year Education Perfect (an online teaching platform) holds specific subject competitions that are competed by numerous schools and students globally. This year, Mia Wilson (Year 11) represented Rototuna High Schools in the English, Languages, Humanities and Science competitions with some outstanding results.
Mia competes in the Education Perfect competition each year as she likes having the challenge and setting herself new goals. Mia exclaims, “The purpose behind me doing the competitions is because I try to beat my previous score from the previous years. It’s a fun challenge, and it is a good way to test and expand my knowledge. Another reason why I do the competitions is that I like to represent the school at Rototuna High Schools on the leaderboard. I don’t play any sports, so this is my way to proudly represent the school.”
With English and History being her most interesting subject areas, Mia applied her prior knowledge, as well as learning along the way to place 3rd in the English Competition in her highest placing yet. Mia was also very proud of herself placing in the Science competition saying, “Science isn’t my strong subject, but I was able to work hard and finish in 8th.” Balancing the competitions and schoolwork took good time management and organisational skills, although she was concerned that she would not be able to do it due to NCEA assessments. In the end Mia proudly announces, “I’ve been able to compete and get great grades”. She said it felt awesome to be placed in the top few, “it felt like all my hard work, effort and time had paid off and was worth it.” Mia finished with the following results:
English Competition (3rd-10th March) - With 30,874 points, Mia placed 3rd in the world out of 81,000 competitors and won a $250 online voucher
Languages Competition (14th-21st May) - With 17,285, Mia placed 48th in the world out of 181,000 competitors
Humanities Competition (16th-23rd June) - With 21,588 points Mia placed 4th in the world out of 38,000 competitors and won a $50 online voucher
Science Competition (18th-25th August) - With 34,711 points Mia placed 8th in the world out of 161,000 competitors and won a $50 online voucher
We would like to say phenomenal congratulations to Mia Wilson. From the whole of Rototuna High Schools, we are immensely proud of you.
