Metlink Extends Half Price Fares

The Rāroan —

New free and discounted fares are coming in August. Until then we’re extending half price fares.

At the 22 June Greater Wellington meeting, Council decided to extend half-price fares until the new fares are in place.
This follows the government decision to:

  • End government funded half-price fares from 30 June.
  • Introduce new discounts which will let children under-13 ride for free, and under 25-year-olds at half price, from 1 July where possible.

These new free and discounted fares will be available when using a Snapper card on Metlink services.

We’re working hard with Snapper, our ticketing partner, to build a concession registration portal for the new age-based discounted fares. By the end of June, we will let you know when you can load the new travel entitlements onto your Snapper card. In the meantime, you will not pay more than you currently do.
When the concession portal is built, free fares for 5 – 12-year-olds will be available, however until then, please remind your child that they will need to tag on and tag off on their Metlink trips.

These fare changes have no impact on the 50% discount for Community Services Card holders and permanent 75% discount on taxi fares for Te Hunga Whaikaha Total Mobility card holders up to a maximum of $60. You can apply for the new Community Connect Concession now. For more information visit the Metlink website.

We will keep you informed when we have more information to share. If you have any questions, please email info@metlink.org.nz or call us at 0800 801 700.
